COVID-19 vehicle leasing FAQs

As the COVID-19 outbreak continues to bring widespread uncertainty, Carparison want to offer clarity around how this may affect vehicle leasing and lease holders.

We have revised our guidance to reflect the latest changes to restrictions within the UK and will continue to update customers with the latest developments as they arise. We hope this provides confidence in the options available to those looking to lease a car during this period as we prioritise the safety of our staff, our customers and our partners.

Can I still order a lease car?

It is business as usual and all of our teams are on hand to find your perfect lease deal. In addition, our partnering dealerships are permitted to remain open during England's latest lockdown to provide delivery services.

We will continue to update the lease deals you see online and work closely with our suppliers in order to negotiate future offers and stock.

What lease cars are available?

The COVID-19 outbreak has forced a number of manufacturers to close their factories or work at reduced capacity, even if temporarily. This means there will be a delay to factory order lease vehicles, the length of which we are unable to confirm until we know more about a conclusion to the outbreak. 

Stock vehicles are not affected by these factory closures as they are already built and on site with our partnering dealers. Therefore, all in stock vehicles will be advertised with a realistic delivery lead time. If you are working to a deadline when choosing your lease car we would recommend basing your search on models advertised as 'in stock'. These vehicles could be with you in just a matter of weeks.

Can cars be delivered during lockdown? 

HM Government's current guidance around England's lockdown has permitted the opening of Britain's critical infrastructure. 

We are delighted that this permits the safe continuation of delivery services from our partnering dealerships,  whom have confirmed they committed to remaining open for this purpose. 

We are therefore anticipating no delay or disruption to delivery services. For future orders, accurate and up-to-date delivery lead times are advertised across our site and will be confirmed again at the time of order.

Are lease vehicle deliveries safe?

It has been the priority of our partnering dealerships that the delivery of lease vehicles are completed in a safe and hygienic manner.

The BVRLA have released minimum standards for COVID-19 secure vehicle delivery and collections. These guidelines will be followed during all deliveries and collections in order to ensure the safety of all involved, details of which can be found here.

We understand that the delivery of a new vehicle should be an exciting and much-anticipated event. If you are feeling unwell, are displaying syymptoms or are self-isolating please contact our team at who will assist in rearranging your delivery. 

Can I extend my current lease?

Extending your current lease is possible but you will need to contact your current funder to arrange this. It is reliant on your provider, but two choices are usually available: an extension for an agreed period or an informal rolling extension to account for a more flexible period. 

My lease is due to end soon.

The collection teams of our chosen finance partners are working to book in the collection of expiring lease vehicles. Having faced a backlog of customers unable to return their vehicle during the earlier COVID-19 lockdowns, their services are in high demand. We extend our thanks for your patience in this regard.

In circumstances where your collection is a matter of urgency, we encourage you to contact your funder to raise your case as a priority.

What if I can no longer afford my lease payments?

It is understood that the financial effects this outbreak are far reaching. As with other industries, the leasing sector will continue to assess ways that it can support those affected by the current disruption. If you are suffering financial difficulty as a result of COVID-19, please contact your lease provider urgently to discuss your options.

If you have placed an order with us, are yet to take delivery and are concerned that you will no longer be able to afford the agreement, we have extended our cancellation period to allow you to cancel your order and receive a full refund. If you have already taken delivery of your lease vehicle and are concerned about affordability, please contact your finance provider urgently to understand your options.

Can I sell my current car?

We are delighted to offer a vehicle buying option for customers who own their current car or are funding it with a finance product that offers a purchase option (such as PCP or Hire Purchase).

If you have a surplus vehicle or would like to release some equity, we can help.

Request a vehicle valuation and our procurement partners will contact you with a quote. 

What do I do if my lease vehicle is due a service or MOT?

Our dealership partners are fully equipped to book in your lease car for any routine maintenance and will be happy to assist you. The extension to MOT and service intervals ceased as of 31st July 2020. Therefore, if your vehicle now requires an MOT or service it is crucial that you undertake this obligation as soon as possible.

Please note: many dealerships will be unable to offer collection or delivery services as they normally would due to COVID-19. You will be required to wear a mask at all times while on site and may not be able to utilise 'while you wait' services by remaining on site as usual during your workshop visit. Please check with your chosen dealership for their individual requirements and procedures.
