Impressive EV6 line-up will launch Kia into an electric future

Kia has unveiled their new electric car, the EV6, which will be the first electric car to be built on the electric-global modular platform (E-GMP), making it a truly monumental moment for the brand.

Following the launch of the E-GMP, Kia confirmed the platform will be a staple of the brand for many years to come as they set their sights on a greener future. It prioritises dynamic driving, as well as focusing on range and cabin space.

The Korean carmaker officially premiered the EV6 on Tuesday 30 March and it promises to be a truly unique line-up.

The model line will include the EV6, as well as GT and GT-Line options as Kia become the latest manufacturer to embrace an electric future.

If you’re considering a Kia lease deal, or just want to know more, here are five things we have learned about the new Kia EV6.

Kia EV6 electric car

Electric mile range that competes with some of the best

Kia’s EV6 has a claimed mile range of 316 miles if you opt for the 77.4kWh battery model. That is comparable to the Tesla Model X and an improvement on the Jaguar I-Pace

It will take just 18 minutes to charge from 10%-80%, thanks to its rapid charging capabilities. Compatible with 400V and 800V chargers, the EV6 can also recoup 62 miles in less than five minutes.

Interior that will compete with SUVs

When describing the EV6 in their online premiere, Kia made comparisons to rally cars, hatchbacks and even sports cars. They're confident they have produced an electric car that is a hybrid of all three and that gives the EV6 potential to become something special.

They believe that because of the longer wheelbase, the space, comfort and practicality of the EV6 will rival several mid-size SUVs.

Sustainability is at the heart of the interior and the reused materials within the cabin are the equivalent of 100 plastic bottles.

The technology on offer inside is just as impressive as the space. Kia have effortlessly integrated a 12.3” curved display into the dashboard. It provides an intuitive system that is easy to operate and has the driver’s needs in mind.

Power your home with the EV6

The EV6 supplies 3.6kW of electricity, which means it can also operate as a back-up supply for your home. It has the capabilities to power a 55inch TV and an air conditioning system for 24 hours, or even an outside projector if you want to create your own outdoor cinema experience.

Bold design

Kia is embracing an electric future. There was a clear sense of excitement as they premiered the EV6.

A long list of manufacturers are making the transition to greener driving, with Volvo among those who plan to be fully electric by 2030

The EV6 embraces a bold new design that we simply haven’t seen from Kia before. It is more angular and the deep sloping roof gives the rear a more profound look.

The rear headlights run across the entire body and offer a sense of continuity. With the EV6, Kia appears to have found a balance between a bold and punchy design that isn't too in your face.

It packs a punch

If you want something with a bit of oomph, the EV6 might be the perfect option for you. With GT and GT-Line models, as well as AWD variants included in the range, there is going to be something for everyone.

The EV6 GT will have a total of 577hp, which will allow it to reach top speeds of around 162mph. With 0-62mph times of just 3.5 seconds, it will rival some of the best performance EVs on the market, like the Mercedes-Benz EQS or the Audi e-tron GT.

As manufacturers continue to adapt and develop, we are seeing the bar for electric cars continue to rise. The EV6 is no different. You get a real sense of the quality and the potential it has to be a serious contender in the EV market.

Until then, Kia continues to offer a range of popular models including the Sportage, Stonic and the Rio
