Join us as we take a closer look at the Ford Capri, a modern, electrified take on the classic.

The Ford Capri is back, and it's got a whole new vibe.

Still carrying the soul of the classic coupe, it now brings that sporty DNA into a sleek, high-tech crossover with enough space and range to tackle modern life.

With advanced technology, an iconic look, and an all-day driving range, it redefines what a coupe crossover can be.

What we drove:

  • Model: Capri Select BEV EXT Range 77kWh / 286PS 5dr RWD Auto 1SP
  • Range: Up to 389 miles
  • Acceleration: 0-62 mph in 8.7 seconds
  • OTR Price: £48,085
  • Colour: Rapid Red
  • OTR price range: £41,485-£56,185

The Ford Capri delivers the classic driving experience reimagined for the modern age.

While its boxier sibling, the Ford Explorer, might seem like it’d be the roomier option, the Capri surprises with 572 litres of boot space—beating the Explorer’s 470 litres.

Opinions were mixed here at Carparison HQ. But after a quick look and a ride, it’s safe to say it won us over.

Looks that turn heads

The new Capri gives a respectful nod to its past, with a sleek coupe-like silhouette, while modern design cues make it a head-turner.

The Matrix LED headlights cut through the night glare-free, while signature LED taillights give a bold salute to the OG Capri.

Step inside, and it’s all about comfort and tech.

The 12-way adjustable heated sports seats come with lumbar support and a massage function to keep you refreshed on long drives.

The customisable LED ambient lighting allows you to match the cabin atmosphere to your mood.

Now add in the B&O 10-speaker sound system with an integrated subwoofer and soundbar, and your cabin will turn into the best carpool karaoke.

Taking centre stage is the 14.6” SYNC Move touchscreen, which adjusts to your driving position, keeping navigation, entertainment, and vehicle controls within easy reach.

Plus, move the screen down and it creates a safe, hidden compartment behind the screen.

Smooth, smart, and seriously fun to drive

Leaving Carparison HQ and easing into the drive, the first thing I noticed was how smooth it was.

It’s got a bit more oomph than the Explorer, but avoids the overly sensitive controls that some EVs suffer from—no more jerky stops from sensitive brakes.

Not only do you get four selectable driving modes, you can also customise the drive to fit your preferences.

How responsive do you want the steering wheel? Or the brakes? Simply set them to how you like them and you’re ready to go.

Or pick from the four modes:

  • Normal – Balanced for everyday driving.
  • Eco – Optimised for maximum efficiency.
  • Sport – Enhances acceleration and steering response.
  • Traction (AWD only) – Provides extra grip on challenging surfaces.

Safety first, adventure second

With a Euro NCAP 5-star rating, the Ford Capri prioritises safety.

Boron steel reinforcements make the design safer, while an array of airbags—including curtain, side, and dual-chamber designs—ensures all passengers stay secure.

Key safety and driver assistance features include:

  • Pre-Collision Assist & Autonomous Emergency Braking – Helps react to hazards before you do.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control – Maintains a safe distance from the car ahead.
  • Driver Alert System – Monitors your attention levels and suggests breaks when needed.
  • Assisted Lane Change – Makes switching lanes smoother and safer.
  • 360-degree camera & Active Park Assist – Takes the stress out of parking in tight spots.

Another clever touch? The removable compartments in the boot.

Muddy shoes? Pop them in, take the compartment out when you’re home, clean it up, and slot it back in—no mess, no fuss.

Charging made simple, tech made smarter

Charging the Capri is as effortless as driving it.

Dedicated EV charger or standard home socket? While it may take longer than a rapid charger, the convenience is unmatched.

And with apps such as Optiwatt, you can charge your car at optimum times when the rates are lower.

You'll also have access to the BlueOval Charge Network, and IONITY high-power DC chargers as part of that.

That’s over 800,000 chargers across 36 European countries.

The Capri is packed with smart tech, too.

EV Trip Planner maps out the best charging stops.

The Ford SYNC system comes with Cloud-connected satellite navigation to give real-time information too. So, no more getting your hopes up over outdated information.

You can also pre-condition your cabin.

Cold night? Simply go onto the FordPass app and set your car to warm itself up before you hop in. No more sitting in the car, waiting for it to defrost so you can get going.

The sound system deserves a shoutout too. With a B&O 10-speaker setup, integrated subwoofer, and soundbar, your Capri transforms into a rolling concert hall.

The Verdict: A Capri for the modern age

The Ford Capri seamlessly fuses style, practicality, and cutting-edge technology, all while staying true to its performance roots.

With impressive range, a spacious interior, and premium features, it’s a serious contender in the EV market.

Pros: Iconic design, spacious boot, premium tech, comfortable and fun to drive.

Cons: Not the fastest, or most powerful EV in its class.

If you’re after an electric crossover with personality and everyday usability, the Ford Capri is calling your name.

Has the Capri captured your heart?
