Your new favourite electric car is coming to the UK in 2022

Citroen have confirmed that they have been given the go-ahead to launch their two-seater electric city car, the AMI, in the United Kingdom.

First launched in 2020, this small EV stood out from the crowd thanks to its eye-catching looks and nimble body shape.

Citroen have confirmed that they are already taking orders for the AMI ahead of its 2022 launch in the UK.

It is claimed that ‘unprecedented demand’ from the UK has seen the French manufacturer bring the Ami to these shores, with 12,000 customers already registering an interest.

Whether you’re after your first, second or fourth electric car lease deal, the Ami could be a smart option to consider. It is built to make electric driving affordable and convenient for those in and around the city.

With such small running costs, it is no secret that the AMI has been designed for a specific profile of customers; city drivers in urban environments. Because of this, all versions of the AMI will remain left-hand drive – allowing drivers in the city to get out of the vehicle and exit straight onto the pavement.

Being a pure electric car with zero CO2 emissions, the AMI is also exempt from Congestion and Ultra-low Emissions Zone (ULEZ) charges, further enhancing the benefits that a Citroen AMI lease will provide.

We don't think the AMI will be setting records around the Nurburgring anytime soon – it comes with an 8bhp (yes 8!) electric motor and will offer you a claimed range of roughly 46 miles, with a blistering top speed of 28mph.

The AMI is 2.41m long, so you will be able to take advantage of the tightest of parking spaces and manoeuvre around the narrower roads with ease.

Despite its small stature, the AMI will still be available for business car leasing. Citroen plan to offer it as a commercial vehicle - the My AMI Cargo LCV - which has 400 litres of storage space and can carry a payload up to 140kg.

The commercial version of the AMI replaces the passenger seat with a smart side storage compartment that is accessible via the right-hand side door.

While the range may not be the biggest, it will be one of, if not the smallest vehicles you see on UK roads.

Though it may appear gimmicky in its appearance, it is a positive sign for the EV market that manufacturers are finding more creative ways to make greener driving more affordable and convenient for the masses.
