Out with the old and in with the new; these are five of the best cars on offer if you're looking for a new lease in 2022.

What better time to contemplate a new vehicle than that in-between bit during Christmas Day and New Year's when you're not quite sure what to do?

We've rounded up five of our favourites from across the past year that are sure to get you through the next, and beyond. Whether you're looking for a performance-focused electric car, an economical estate, or a spacious SUV, we've got you covered.

After all, there's nothing quite like brightening up a dull January with a new set of wheels.

Tesla Model 3

1. Tesla Model 3

It's no surprise that the Tesla Model 3 features on this list - it's an office favourite, and for good reason.

If you're looking for a performance-focused electric vehicle that doesn't compromise on range or comfort, the Model 3 is a fantastic option - and it's more affordable than the rest of Tesla's enviable line-up.

Its sleek looks and minimalist cabin make it a desirable option, and the 15-inch infotainment system not only keeps you connected on the go, but offers fun extras like games, car information handouts, and even a crackling fireplace for those cosy cabin vibes.

A Tesla Model 3 is the perfect car to take you into 2022 and beyond, especially if you're after a Tesla business lease.

For the best bang for your hard-earned buck, go for the Long Range AWD model. Its 88kWh battery has a claimed range of 360 miles, and it's capable of hitting 62mph in just 4.2 seconds.

Polestar 2

2. Polestar 2

Polestar's first all-electric car is a fantastic option if you're looking for an EV.

It's one of our favourites from the last year, and rivals the Model 3 for space, performance, and comfort. But it stands out of its own accord; its swooping lines and fresh feel give it a commanding presence on the roads.

It's typically Volvo safe too, with a plethora of safety features included as standard.

If you're after performance and speed, opt for the Long Range Dual Motor model, but if range is the most important aspect for you, go for the Long Range Single Motor model, with a 78kWh battery and a claimed range of 335 miles.

With a spacious interior, 11.2-inch infotainment system, and a 405L boot, the Polestar 2 is an excellent option for your 2022 lease.

Ford Fiesta

3. Ford Fiesta

If you're looking for a car to get you from here to there and back again in comfort, safety, and style, then the Ford Fiesta should shoot straight to the top of your 2022 wish list.

Launching in 1976, the Fiesta is now the most iconic supermini on our roads.

Not only is it surprisingly spacious (the boot is plenty big enough for a weekend getaway or weekly food shop), but it's durable and easy to maintain, making it perfect for time-poor young families or first-time drivers.

Its lasting popularity is evident, and Ford has kept every iteration up to date by including the latest technologies, including power steering, anti-lock brakes, and smartphone connectivity. The Fiesta is due a facelift in 2022, so watch this space for its new look.

There are also hybrid powertrains available, if you're looking for something a little more environmentally friendly, but aren't quite ready for a full EV.

Skoda Octavia

4. Skoda Octavia

If you're looking for a new estate to tackle 2022 with, you'd be hard pushed to find a better option than the Skoda Octavia.

The Czech manufacturer has a history of offering sensible cars that are good value for money, and stand up against many of its premium rivals. The Octavia estate is the best example of this, and has become Skoda's best-selling vehicle.

The Octavia uses the same underpinnings as the VW Golf, elongating the distance between the front and the back wheels and adding more space in the rear for a 640L boot.

There's a huge range of engines on offer too, including a frugal petrol, an economical diesel, and a plug-in hybrid variant with a useful 40-mile range. If you're looking for your next company car, a PHEV Octavia is a fantastic choice.

Not only does it qualify for the lowest rates of Benefit-in-Kind tax, but if you keep the Octavia charged you'll be able to cover most commutes on the electric engine alone, making the vehicle kinder on your wallet and on the environment.

Kia Sportage

5. Kia Sportage

The Kia Sportage has long been a popular choice among families, but the latest fifth-generation variant is the best one yet, featuring a fresh new look and a plethora of tech.

With space in the cabin for all your tall friends, and a generous 587L boot, the Sportage is the perfect family vehicle to get you through the next year or three.

The handling is refined and the drive is easy, with a comfortable and upmarket cabin that'll make even the longest journeys a breeze. It also offers a variety of powertrains, from the standard petrol or diesel offering to mild hybrid engines, and right up to the plug-in hybrid model.

It offers something a little different in what can be quite a crowded market; the new look is 'sophisticated and organic', according to Kia, and it has a bold and commanding presence.

If you're after a new family car, or you want to upgrade into something spacious and good value for money, the Kia Sportage is an excellent option.

Fancy treating yourself to a new set of wheels this new year?
