What engines are available on the BMW Z4?
The BMW Z4 is available with two petrol engines. The entry-level sDrive20i has a 194bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and an eight-speed automatic gearbox as standard, hitting 62mph in 6.6 seconds. The range-topping M40i has a 335bhp 3.0-litre straight-six petrol engine with an eight-speed automatic gearbox as standard, and an six-speed manual gearbox as an option. The manual M40i completes the 0-62mph sprint in 4.6 seconds, and adds a layer of driver involvement and engagement that makes it the more rewarding choice. And if you're going to lease a convertible sports car, you might as well go the whole hog.
How practical is the BMW Z4?
More so than most two-seat sports cars. The BMW Z4 has a 281-litre boot, and crucially, its capacity doesn't change when the fabric roof is folded away. You can get around five carry-on suitcases in the boot, and a ski hatch between the seats allows longer items to be threaded through from behind. Front leg room is more generous than in rivals, and the interior has more storage than you'd think, including door bins and a wireless charging cubby. The fabric roof opens in just 12 seconds at the press of a button.
What trim levels are available on the BMW Z4?
The BMW Z4 keeps things simple with one trim level per engine. The sDrive20i M Sport comes with 18-inch alloys, heated leather front seats, dual-zone climate control, cruise control, ambient lighting, LED headlights, front and rear parking sensors, and BMW's iDrive infotainment system with 10.3-inch screen and rotary controller. The M40i builds on this with 19-inch alloys, adaptive M suspension, a limited-slip differential, blue-caliper M Sport brakes, and a full electric seat adjustment with lumbar support. The optional Harman Kardon sound system is worth considering on both versions, especially for roof-down driving.
