Tesla's Connectivity Packages

Tesla offer two different connectivity packages to drivers of their cars: Standard Included Connectivity and Premium Connectivity.

In their own words, "Connectivity is an important part of all Tesla cars, further enhancing the driving experience by providing access to features that require data usage — including streaming music and media, live traffic visualization and more."

Standard vs Premium Connectivity

All Tesla models come with Standard Connectivity while Premium Connectivity is an optional upgrade. Standard requires a Wi-Fi connection to access connectivity features in addition to navigation and music streaming over Bluetooth. Contrastingly, Premium Connectivity provides access to all features without needing WiFi.

Vehicle eligibility

For Tesla Model S and Model X models ordered on or before June 30 2018, Premium Connectivity is permanently free of charge.

Cars ordered on or after July 1 2018, including Tesla Model 3 and Tesla Model Y, will initially receive a free trial of Tesla Premium Connectivity but will need to subscribe to it at a charge thereafter.

Tesla Premium Connectivity on lease vehicles

This trial period hasn't previously been inflicted on lease customers of Tesla vehicles as there was no billing solution in place at Tesla HQ. Instead, lease customers have had access to Premium Connectivity for free, indefinitely.

This changed as of 1st May 2022. With a billing solution now in place, Tesla have now moved customers back to Standard Connectivity automatically. If you are still within your 30-day trial period, you will not be downgraded until 30 days has lapsed.

Tesla lease customers who want to continue to use Premium Connectivity after their trial must now subscribe via their Tesla account or mobile app for £9.99 per month.

How to subscribe to Tesla Premium Connectivity

To subscribe to Premium Connectivity at any time you must access your mobile app.

Once there:

  1. Head to the 'Upgrades' section
  2. Select 'Software Upgrades'
  3. Move to the 'Subscribe' tab
  4. Select 'Add' within the Premium Connectivity section

You will subsequently be charged £9.99 a month for the duration of your subscription.

At the end of your Tesla lease deal, remember to cancel this subscription, again through your app, so you are no longer charged for a vehicle and features outside of your possession.

If you are a Carparison customer and do not have Premium Connectivity listed as an available option or are struggling to upgrade, please contact us and we will be happy to liaise with Tesla on your behalf.
